Sony unveils the PSP2 - Codename "NGP"

I was up last night watching kotaku japan's live stream of the Playstation Meeting 2011 that took place in tokyo , and i have to say this thing looks awesome! . Some features include a beautiful "Super Oval Design", a high-res touch capable OLED touch-screen on the front, which is larger than the original PSP, as well as a touch-sensitive material on the back on the device shown below, which is an interesting add.

More features include tilt sensitive six-axis controls , DUAL analog sticks as you can see, front and rear facing cameras, built in wi-fi & 3G connectivity and sony dropped UMD's as their main game storage. Here's a quote from sony on the new medium:

"NGP adopts a new game medium, a small flash memory based card, dedicated for NGP software titles. Taking advantage of the flash memory feature, this innovative card can store the full software titles plus add-on game content or the game save data directly on to the card. By adopting flash memory based card, SCE will be able to provide game cards with higher capacity in the future, allowing developers to store more game data to deliver rich and immersive games."

One thing I'm curious about is if it will support ipv6 seeing as ipv4 will be gone by the end of the year, but that's a whole different subject.

Sony says NGP will be able to play PSone games via their new "Playstation Suite" platform and will be backwards compatible with original PSP games downloadable via the PSN. Sony also said it would be out "This holiday" in japan. I'll keep you posted on pricing/exact availability once sony releases that information.
