UPDATE - NGP Pricing & Wi-Fi Only Version

While there's no official announcement (yet) of the price point for Sony's new handheld , Sony's Shu Yoshida spoke with GameInformer on the subject.

Given the technical specs of the device and it's capability's, one has to ask "how much of a hole will this burn in my wallet?". Yoshida acknowledged that Sony is aware of  price being an important issue for the NGP.

"From the very beginning of the project -- since 2008 -- pricing was one of the considerations that we had. Hopefully when we announce the price, people will see the proper value.". Yoshida provided a hint for pricing when GameInformer's Phil Kollar brought up his inital shock of the $599 price tag when the PS3 was first released . Phil: "he laughed and assured me, "It's not going to be $599.".

While this is progress i hope it wont be a $399 or $449 tag, which would still be a scary thing to see.

Also it seems that there will be two versions of the NGP, one with Wi-Fi only support and one with 3G & Wi-Fi.

Andrew House - Sony Computer Entertainment's chief said: "The first thing to clarify, which I'm not sure the presentation did a perfect job of doing today, is that all of the devices will have Wi-Fi capability; a separate SKU will have 3G."

"So the user gets a choice. Wi-Fi is available wherever, which clearly is the most important aspect of connectivity and that connected experience; 3G will be a subset of that."

A Wi-Fi only model only makes sense, given that 3G isnt really a big deal for me. There's also the question of how 3G will work here in the west, another monthly fee? can we link our NGP's to our current carrier with no additional cost?,which would be really nice though doubtful, and if there is how much would it cost us?, not to mention all the different carriers competing against each other.
